STOP DEPORTING CHILDREN

The Stop Deporting Children Campaign is a campaign of organisations, trades unions and concerned individuals taking action against the deportation of children to countries where their health, their freedom, their education and ultimately their survival will be imperilled.

Asylum seeking children in the UK are denied the basic human rights that all other children take for granted:

The right to a family life;
The right to education;
Freedom from imprisonment;
Freedom from deportation;
Freedom from destitution;
Freedom from dispersal;
Freedom from terror.

Save the Children estimates that around 2000 children are imprisoned in detention centres each year for up to 268 days. According to recent reports by the Chief Inspector of Prisons, the conditions in detention centres are highly deficient and the physical and mental health of detained children can be severely damaged.

The vast majority of children applying for asylum each year are refused and thousands are sent back to countries such as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, Turkey, Congo and Angola according to Home Office statistics. In some of these destinations returned asylum seekers are punished with imprisonment, torture or murder.
